eSOL To Support NEC Electronics' New NaviEngine® Car Navigation Platform

-- eSOL's Multi-Core RTOS and Development Tools Offer Comprehensive Support --

Tokyo, Japan. October 3, 2007 - eSOL, a leading developer of realtime embedded software solutions, today announced that its flagship eT-Kernel Multi-Core Edition realtime operating system (RTOS) suites coupled with the eBinder integrated development environment (IDE) are now available for NEC Electronics' new high performance and low power consumption NaviEngine® system LSI chip for automotive navigation systems. NaviEngine is based on the ARM11 MPCore processor, and provides software portability across single-CPU and multi-CPU designs, simplifying the design process, and reducing time-to-market as well as total design costs.

"We have been very pleased with eSOL's continuous support of NEC Electronics' high-end processor platforms for automotive applications, especially car navigation systems," said Hiroaki Kaneko, general manager, Automotive Systems Division, NEC Electronics. "Their multi-core ready OS products and development tools, proven by leading OEMs and ODMs throughout the world, will bring a valuable competitive advantage to the NaviEngine ecosystem."

Taking advantage of the capability of the ARM11 MPCore multi-core processor to support simultaneously both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP), the eT-Kernel Multi-Core Edition supports four scheduling modes. This provides software developers both the maximum scalability and throughput efficiency of SMP, while ensuring the more deterministic and realtime characteristics of AMP. All this is within a single tightly-coupled multiprocessor solution supporting POSIX 1003.1. 2003, T-Kernel/OS/SM/DS functions, and T-Kernel Standard Extension APIs.

The eT-Kernel's blended single--image multiprocessor kernel provides full reuse of existing code for both AMP- and SMP-targeted applications. Complete task interworking is via regular OS communication and synchronization mechanisms. This allows existing single-processor designs to migrate and operate seamlessly, using the coherent cache control and accelerated communication available on the ARM11 MPCore multi-core processor.

eBinder is an integrated development environment that is tightly coupled with the eT-Kernel Multi-Core Edition, and provides optimal development efficiencies for multi-core based software development. The eBinder IDE includes ARM RealView compiler technology, task-aware remote debugger and system analysis tools that fully support both AMP- and SMP-based application development. eBinder also assists developers with multi-core specific analysis and diagnostic tools , with which developers can instantly capture system and application snapshots presented visually. Many embedded software developers have found it very challenging when it comes to the software development in the multi-core environment because of existing software portability, but also lack of software development tools, especially debugging and analysis tools.

Along with the eT-Kernel Multi-Core Edition and the eBinder IDE, eSOL is currently porting its leading middleware, PrCONNECT/Pro embedded TCP/IP stack and PrUSB/Host USB-host driver, as well as low-level drivers in the drop-in format for the NaviEngine platform, aiming the initial customer release for the first quarter in 2008.

"Having served in the frontline of the consumer electronics industry as a leading embedded-software vendor, we know that multi-core has become critical technology for world-class OEMs and ODMs" says Nobuyuki Ueyama, the Executive Vice President of the Embedded Products Division at eSOL Co., Ltd. "We are very pleased to team up with NEC Electronics on this new, innovative NaviEngine processor with our proven multi-core ready RTOS and tools, offering developers with total platform solution experiences for high-end car navigation systems."
